WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
In
the late 1970's US journo David
Raybourne (McCarthy) is living
in Rome whilst working on a spy
thriller, when he uncovers
details of a coup in the making
by the notorious left wing Red
Brigade, he finds his life in
grave danger, helped by
photographer Allison (Stone) he
determines to bring the plotters
down.
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
We've
yet to see an un-entertaining John Frankenheimer movie and this Year of
the Gun from 1991 but set in the late 1970's both has lots of his
trademark conspiracy touches, Andrew McCarthy and Sharon Stone were both
pretty big players back then and of course being a Sharon Stone movie
from the height of her Basic Instinct prowess there is room for some
totally gratuitous sex scenes too.
There
are plenty of action sequences and bullet dodging moments that make
plenty of use of the fantastic Rome cityscapes and whilst it
occasionally seems dated
Year
of the Gun still manages to maintain a decent level of suspense.
