ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

ROCK HUDSON as Commissioner Stewart McMillan / SUSAN SAINT JAMES as Sally McMillan / JOHN SCHUCK as Sgt Charles Enright / NANCY WALKER as Mildred

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

We love McMillan and Wife, it's so cute, part of the NBC Mystery Movie series and detailing the often murderous cases of Commissioner Stewart McMillan who usually managed to get his wife Sally involved (although to be fair it was more often than not Sally who got McMillan involved) McMillan and Wife is one of the best of the 1970's Mystery Movie series.

The show probably had its roots in the Nick and Nora Thin Man films of the 1930's and 1940's and featured much of the same banter between the leads that characterised those films. Also heavily involved in the series was Mac's right hand man Sgt Charles Enright and their none too polite housekeeper Mildred but its the relationship between Mac and Sally that makes the series a gem, the dialogue between the two is always sparkly and crisp and its good to see a TV show where the leads are happily married (interestingly Susan Saint James was hand picked by Hudson for the role but the pair didn't get on too well - maybe because Saint James was nominated for an Emmy for four years running), Sally it seems though as the real nose for murders whether the pair are on a weekend retreat, at a masquerade ball or even moving it seems a body is never far away.

This release by Universal features all 7 episodes from the first series as well as the pilot Once Upon a Dead Man, like all Mystery Movies shows the episodes are feature length and are spread across two double sided discs. There are no special features but this is one very recommended release.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?
