WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
“Tell
me what you don’t like about
yourself”
Gruesome
is as gruesome does and if you
are on the squeamish side like
me then Nip/Tuck is one of the
most gruesome shows on TV, now
showing its third series on the
FX Network Nip/Tuck’s season
two comes to DVD in a lavish new
box set from Warner.
Dylan
Walsh and Julian McMahon return as Sean McNamara and Christian Troy of
the elite plastic surgery team of McNamara/Troy, whose skill at giving
others perfect bodies contrasts with their imperfect personal lives. The
pair live lives of superficial sex filled hedonism - in fact McMahon’s
character spends more time in bed with his patients than operating on
them, it’s a deliciously dark exploration of the seedy yet shiny and
buff underbelly of modern day America.
Key
events this season include Christian falling for a self-assured blind
woman, played by Rebecca Gayheart (Urban Legend) and Sean beginning a
relationship with a porn star after Julia (Joely Richardson) shares a
family secret that tears apart the McNamara household. This season also
introduces the Carver, a serial rapist who cuts the faces of his
victims. As Sean ignores the threats of the Carver, lives are in the
balance as a the series builds to its climatic finale.
There
are some high profile guest stars this season too including an
appearance by Joely Richardson’s legendary mother Vanessa Redgrave as
well as Famke Jannsen.
This is a
series about plastic surgery and yes the operation scenes are very much
in your face, often literally and despite the often disturbing imagery
on show its also one of the best shows on TV, compelling and innovative
in equal measure. This set includes all 16 episodes from the second
season and easily qualifies as must see TV.
