WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

"The more time I spend with Zack the less I have to think about...ew...what's his face...built like a bean pole, curly hair, runs away like a little bitch on his sailboat, leaving nothing but a note for his girlfriend who cried and cried over him until the 4th of July when she decided she doesn't cry over bitches on boats..."
"Seth...his name...it's Seth."
"I know! I'm just doing that thing where I pretend I don't and I've to use a lot of descriptive insults to give voice to my inner pain."
        - Summer and Marissa

The OC has pretty much proved itself to be the hottest show on the box and Warners keep us happy by bringing us each of the 24 episodes of the second season on a nicely put together seven disc set.

Season one introduced us to the characters and season two allows us to delve deeper into their lives, the tangled relationships of Ryan and Marissa and Summer and Seth are once again to the fore and Ryan’s brother Trey arrives to stir up the pot some at the season’s end.

At it’s heart the series is a soapie in the vein of such classics as Peyton Place with it’s tangled and interlocking lives and there is a sense of the whole season being a build up to the cliff hanging finale which, obviously we don’t want to give too much of the plot away in case you are watching the series solely on DVD (with the box sets for TV series following hot on the heels of each season’s showing on TV there is a whole new trend of people waiting for the DVD to catch a show, becoming their own TV program schedulers in the process).

What sets the OC apart from other similarly styled shows is the crisp dialogue and quality acting and its easy going wiliness to poke fun at the soap opera genre. Watch and enjoy.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

Extras include an intriguing extended creators cut of the episode Rainy Day Women; Audio commentary on the episodes The Chrismukkah That Almost Wasn’t and Rainy Day Women by cast and crew members; A look at fashion of The OC in Beauty Couture; An OC TV Special called The OC-Obsess Completely (originally broadcast on 16 September 2004) and finally a gag reel taking in both season one and season two.
