ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Jeremy Sisto, Deborah Unger, Lance Henriksen

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Simon, a computer programmer living and working from home, starts to receive packages and when he opens them nothing is inside.  After receiving several packages Simon starts to get paranoid and beefs up his security but the packages keep arriving in his apartment by means unknown.  Home for Simon is an apartment block that is under constant CCTV surveillance by a mysterious landlord and Simon's neighbours are mostly a weird bunch of loners - all seem

fairly technologically adept with their own computer-based projects going on - one is creating an android head, another creates virtual reality games.  He befriends a nurse in a nearby apartment although becomes suspicious of her and he has a courier friend who can get anything and seems to know a lot about what's going on.  And Simon develops an obsession for drinking milk and hears voices coming from the garbage chute.  So the basic story is what is going on and why - and who?

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

It's not as good as it seems it might be at first.  It's all a bit confused which may be to emphasise Simon's confused state because he doesn't know what's going on - but unfortunately the viewer doesn't really either.  There are answers to a few questions given by the end but whether they make much sense or are explained clearly enough I didn't think so.

There were still things I didn't understand by the end - possibly some were explained but the dialogue was a bit indistinct in places and I couldn't catch all that was said (and the review DVD didn't have a subtitles option).  The lead role of Simon (Jeremy Sisto) is played well enough showing his descent into confusion and paranoia - although he was never a regular sort of guy even to start with.  I couldn't work out if it was set in the future or not - the computer equipment seemed a bit low-tech but capable of more advanced things.

One other confusing thing was the end credits - they are statedly in appearance order but a lot of the time the characters appear in different positions to those indicated - some way-before and some way-after.  Which might suggest it was re-edited after the credits were originally prepared.

Anyway, ultimately it's not an especially satisfying movie and probably could have been better as there was nothing wrong with the basic idea.
