ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

David Jason, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Buster Merryfield, Roger Lloyd Pack,

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Only Fools and Horses must surely be Britains most loved sitcom, the shenanigans of loveable market trader and entrepreneur Derek "Delboy" Trotter, his brother Rodney and their wily Uncle "sharks.. don't talk to me about sharks" Albert have provided more laughs to more people over the years than almost every other sitcom put together.

It's a simple premise that works superbly, Delboy, played to perfection by David Jason, is a middle aged dreamer who yearns to escape his working class background and live the high life he knows he deserves, he always has some dodgy scheme ("this time next year Rodders, we'll be millionaires") that never come off; Rodney is his younger brother who was brought up by Delboy after the death of their mother, with his mixture of naviety, stupidity and the occasional brainwave Rodders manages to keep Delboy's feet on the ground; Uncle Albert (who replaced the lovely Lennard Pearce after his death) watches the antics of the pair and more often than not finds himself involved.

Roadshow are up to series 5 and 6 with their releases of this brilliant show and they are two key series in the history of the show; Series 5 is the last of the half hour shows and contains more classic episodes

than many shows could manage in ten series, all of the six episodes here are regarded as being among the shows very best , from The Miracle of Peckham to the brilliant The Longest Night which sees the boys locked in a supermarket overnight when they get caught up in a bungled robbery. Best of the bunch though is Tea For Three which sees Del and Rodney fighting over the same girl and ends up with Del going hang-gliding. Truly sidesplittingly funny.

Series 6 marked a big change for the show as the episodes moved to fifty minutes long giving writer John Sullivan scope to widen out the characters; More serial in nature this is the series that saw Del try to become a yuppie and Rodney grows up when he falls in love with Cassandra, the girl he meets on his night school course, its still completely hilarious too again with these episodes rightly regarded as comedy gold. Yuppy Love features one of TV's funniest moments ever with Delboy's falling over in the wine bar moment ("drink up Trig, we're leaving, you're cramping my style") and The Unlucky Winner Is.. is the one where Rodney has to pose as a 13 year old when Del wins them a foreign holiday. Pure genius.

No matter how many times you see some of these episodes they always remain fresh and you can't really ask for more from a DVD. Very funny and very recommended.
