WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
Always
one of the most coruscating but
still melodic rock bands of the
80's and 90's and lead singer
Frank Black (aka Black Francis
real name Charles Thompson) was
never the typical front man with
his mystical lyrics of aliens
and religion, Monkey Gone to
Heaven
was
their big
breakthrough hit but the band released five albums during the late 80's
and early 90's, by 1991 the band had split, fast forward a dozen or more
years to 3 April 2004 when the Pixies are back on the road, disc one of
this 2 disc set comes from the Eurokeennes festival in France where the
bands furious sound is as indelible as ever. Black and co's surf punk
rock noise hasn't dated and songs such as Bone Machine, Wave of
Mutilation and Levitate Me resonate long after the concert is over and
Joey Santiago proves to be the showman of the group with his using a
drumstick on his guitar during Vamos.
Disc
one features the whole concert and some 27 tracks (Wave of Mutilation
crops up twice) whilst the second disc features 15 extra tracks taken
from the bands various
appearances
on their reunion tour with footage from The Move Festival in Manchester,
England, New Orleans Voodoo Festival, Scotlands T in the Park and quite
a few more, the band are clearly enjoying their re-emergence and this is
a great blast from the past in every sense of the word.
ANY
SPECIAL FEATURES?
Disc
two is really a bonus disc and as mentioned above features 15 tracks
taken from various points across the reunion tour.
