ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Jay Mohr, Julianne Nicholson, Andy Richter, Helen Slater

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Ed and Alice seem to be the perfect couple.  They have been together for five years, are best friends, and are soon to be married.  All their friends comment on how happy and well-matched they are.

But Alice (Julianne Nicholson) has become concerned that their relationship might be in a rut and she questions if they have a hot enough sex life and believes they have stopped being adventurous.  She makes a suggestion that they should have a period before their marriage that they both try sleeping with other people to get new ideas and experiences.  Ed (Jay Mohr) is very reluctant to go along with this but eventually agrees at her continued insistence.

She gets right into the swing of things and has an affair with a gardener, but Ed has much more difficulty being with other women.

Inevitably these affairs causes jealousies between the two of them and their relationship looks like it's about to fail.  Will they overcome the difficulties caused by this reckless idea, or have they forever ruined their perfect partnership?

On the face of it the plot sounds like it could be borrowed from a 70s British Sex Comedy.  But it's actually a charming enough light-hearted drama even if the plot is somewhat contrived. Both of the leads are extremely likeable and all the supporting roles work well.

Overall it's a good film that leaves you wondering how it's all going to work out.
