ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Lenny Henry, Tracey Ullman, David Copperfield

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Three of a kind should come with a vintage copy of Smash Hits or a skinny piano tie, so full of early 1980’s nostalgia is it; Back in the day Three of a Kind was an opportunity for then reasonably new faces Lenny Henry, Tracey Ullman and David Copperfield to shine in

a series of  quick fire sketches; Just heading into my teens when the show first started Three of a Kind was safe enough for the whole family to watch and nowhere near as full on as Not the Nine O’ Clock News; Like any sketch show the material is hit and miss but by not focusing so much on topical material much of it is still pretty funny today, Lenny gets to do his David Bellamy impersonation and Tracey gets to sing some Motown style songs (Ullman actually had a background in West End musicals) and Copperfield gets to stand around and wonder why his career after Three of a Kind isn’t going to take of.

One very positive aspect of this Cinema Club release of the entire first season is that the regular musical interludes that cropped up each week have been left in (so many of these types of releases end up not including these for copyright reasons) so we have the opportunity to see Toni Basil’s eye popping Mickey routine as well as the likes

of Aimi Stewart and for some reason each episode featured a dance routine which somehow just doesn’t fit in with the dynamic of the show.

Packed full of amusing moments this is well worth snapping up, it’s funny and a full on nostalgia blast.
