WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
America
in the 1970s was a time of great
civil unrest. A lot of
people disproved of their
governments involvement in the
Vietnam War including a group of
students calling themselves
"The Weather
Underground" that formed
from the embers of a protest
group called Students for a
Democratic Society (SDS).
The
Weather men's (and women's) aim was a dedication to violently overthrow
the
US
government using civil unrest and terror tactics to destabilise. They
were often sons and daughters of the rich and therefore had access to
money and instigated a sustained campaign of bombing public buildings
although they always made sure they gave sufficient warnings to ensure
no loss of life. The documentary also explores the FBI's tactics
in trying to hunt them down and includes interviews with the surviving
members and what they are doing now. In case you're wondering they
took their group's name from a lyric in a Bob Dylan song.
SO IS
IT ANY GOOD?
It's an
interesting enough documentary about something I'd never heard about
before. This would no doubt have much more resonance and relevance
to an American audience who would have this time rooted in their
culture. The story is well told through personal recollections of
the participants and archive news reports from the time.
