The 27 books of the New Testament are revered by Christians as the authoritative word of God this 3 part SBS series examines the origins of the books. 

First up we look at the four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John - who were these four men and when were the Gospels written; Part 2 focuses on "Maintaining The Truth" and in particular the letters of Jesus's brothers James and Jude and how the Jewish movement in Jerusalem, led by James, clashed with Paul's view of Christ and also how Paul's speaking with the Churches of the Mediterranean helped turn Christianity into a proper movement; The third part is called But, Whose Truth Was The Truth? and examines the heresies that were set against the early church as well as the 50 other Gospels that were almost

 

in general usage in antiquity including writings by Judas Iscariot and Pontius Pilate, how valid these were we don't really know as they have disappeared and never made it into the accepted canon. 

This is a really intriguing release certainly sheds more than a little new light on a topic that many take at face value, not just of interest to the academic but to anyone with a passing interest in the beginnings of Christianity.
