THE LOW DOWN

Life in Ward 17 at All Saints Western General Hospital, affectionately known as “the garbage ward” because it takes patients the rest of the hospital finds too difficult to place. Led by Nurse Unit Manager Terri Sullivan, Ward 17 is the saviour of the Emergency Department who know that somehow her nursing staff will cope with any case they are sent.

THE VERDICT

You definitely have to applaud EMI with these fabulous All Saints Box Sets, rather than splitting up the admittedly long series into two or even three box sets as we have seen companies do before they have kept the fans happy by keeping each season to a single box set, no matter how many discs it takes. This fourth season is a ten disc collection and watching the episodes (and there are 42 of them!) its easy to see why the show has remained so popular for so long. Medical dramas have always been well liked but All Saints adds that all important human touch to the mix, the ongoing problems in the lives of the doctors, nurses and staff of the ward just as intrinsic to the show as the medical drama of the week.

Another major plus point is the high quality of the guest performances and there are roles in this fourth series for the likes of Rebekah Elmaloglou, Graeme Blundell, Anna Hruby, Arthur Dignam, John Howard and Syd Conabere.

Fans of the show are going to lap this up of course but there is enough drama and action here to satisfy any TV fan. Well worth a look.
