WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Remake of 70's movies are all the rage at the moment, what with Poseidon hitting the big screens and Billy Bob's Bad News Bears arriving on our small screens; The original from 1977 starred Walter Matthau and a young Jodie Foster and whilst Billy Bob is no

match for the legendary Matthau he is more than capable of handling the material.

Thornton plays Morris Buttermaker a former baseball pro turned pest exterminator, he finds himself agreeing to coach a Little League team called The Bears, mainly because he thinks there may be a quick buck or two in it; Of course his team are on the bottom rung to nowheresville and have trouble hitting a barn door at two paces, throw in an arrogant rival coach (played with glee by Greg Kinnear) and a female boss who wants results and you have your classic road to glory flick.

Bad News Bears ticks off all the pre-requisites including having the token fat kid on the team, however its worth mentioning that while the plotline would suggest a good family movie the language and attitudes show that its the teenage set the makers want to catch. They would possibly have been wiser to gone down the G rating route.

Another of director Richard Linklater's non serious movies and offering up a vibe very similar to his Jack Black starring School of Rock. Bad News Bears, despite not matching up to the original still has plenty to recommend it and provides plenty of laughs throughout its 109 minutes.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?
