ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Derek Thompson, Cathy Shipton, Brenda Fricker

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Hard to believe that this second season of casualty is almost 20 years old and because it is the second season the soapy element has yet to really take hold and the show is still channelling that American St

Elsewhere, Hill Street Blues vibe. Set in the casualty department of the fictional town of Holby (aka Bristol) the show succeeds because, like the Bill in its earliest days, in never let the personal lives of the characters get in the way of the drama.

The second season, spread over four discs, is clearly about establishing the lead characters with Charlie Fairhead, Lidsa "Duffy" Duffin and Megan Roach gaining the lions share of the plaudits however paramedic Sandra Mute (played by Lisa Bowerman) also went centre stage with Casualty's most heart stopping moment yet when she was brutally stabbed.

Whilst these days it is pretty much a fully fledged soap opera this second season is definitely where its at, a strong drama series that back in the day was worth stopping in for and is still now worth spending some time with.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

No extras but the great drama more than makes up for it.
