THE LOWDOWN

Roadshow bring us the best season of this iconic sitcom telling the misadventures of a group of mostly elderly home guardsmen in a seaside town during the world war two; led by pompous and generally incompetent bank manager Captain Mainwaring , the group tried their best but usually managed to create chaos.

THE VERDICT

A true classic, season six contains some of the most well known moments from the show, 7 episodes and every one a gem, the season opens with The Deadly Attachment which features the boys tangling with a German U-Boat crew Captain: Vot is your name, Mainwaring: Don't Tell him Pike.
My British Buddy has Mainwaring is none too pleased when he learns a platoon of Americans are due in Walmington.
The Royal Train sees Walmington-On-Sea  due to have a Royal Visit - at least that's what Mainwaring believes; The Honourable Man explores the jealousy that exists in the relationship between Mainwaring and Sgt Wilson at least on Mainwaring's side. After the death of one of his relatives Wilson learns he is almost of blue blood, this of course leaves the supremely jealous Mainwaring seething.

Superbly entertaining, British comedy at its best, you can't not love Dad's Army, also keep a look out for the now semi-regular appearances of the brilliant Talfryn Thomas as Private Cheeseman, this Welsh character actor with the awful teeth made a habit of stealing every scene he was in throughout his whole career and is on especially good form here.
