WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Before making Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! director Russ Meyer had worked as a photographer for Hugh Hefner's Playboy magazine before embarking a series of "Nudie Cutie" movies with titles like The Immoral Mr Teas, he was hugely successful on the drive in circuit which pushed him to expand his ouvre somewhat with added dashes of violence and go go dancing! Then he made Pussycat and there was no going back.

Right form the opening you know what you are in for, filmed in crisp black and white, we are warned about the dangers of violence and it's varied forms "one might be your doctor's receptionist, or a dancer in a go-go-club!" before we meet the trio of buxom Pussycat girls dancing the Watusi in a nightclub - before you know it the girls are driving around the desert in fantastic Jaguars and Porsches and having full on catfights whilst wearing tight jumpers. The girls turn outlaw and whilst hiding out at an isolated owner discover that the seedy old bloke who owns the place has a stack of money hidden - one problem stands in the girls way though - the farmer's sons.

Supremely camp and a great turn around on the usual stereotyping you'd find in such movies, the girls are in control - a bit too much so if you ask me and brilliantly shot by Meyer, who cast his movies not by acting talent but by cup size, it just shows how much times have changed though - this would have been quite an extreme movie but now it just gets an M rating. Russ Meyers are as tacky as all get out but they are sure great fun.

Any Special Features?

Extras include an audio commentary not just from director Russ Meyer but also the three Pussycats - Tura Satana, Haji and Lori Williams. There's a great featurette called Go Pussycat Go which goes behind the scenes of the movie and includes interviews with the Pussycats, theres the theatrical trailer and trailers for other Madman releases.
