WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Even though we are now onto season six The Gilmore Girls shows no signs of slowing down in terms of quality, the show has certainly changed somewhat since its beginning however the central premise, that of the relationship between single mum Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory.

At the end of season five Rory has decided to drop out of Yale, mainly down to some ill advised comments from her boyfriends Logan's father, the pair also get in trouble by stealing a yacht belonging to one of Logan's father's wealthy friends. Season six picks up directly from this with Rory and Lorelei not exactly on speaking terms (Lorelai worked extremely hard to put Rory through college) and Rory has taken refuge at her wealthy grandparents house. She is also having to do community service thanks to the yacht incident, of course the girls do kiss and make up and Rory heads back to Yale, Logan though has decided not to continue with their relationship. Things reach crisis point for the two when Rory discovers Logan has been unfaithful - more than once, will they get to repair their relationship before Logan leaves for London?

Lorelai's love life is equally fraught, her relationship with Luke is falling apart thanks to him keeping quiet about his long lost daughter. The biggest drama for Loreilai though is the re-appearance of Rory's father Christopher who apparently wants to make up for lost time and as the season builds towards a climax it looks like Loreilai is going to have some difficult choices to make in season seven - Luke or Christopher.

As always there's a great level of wit in the dialogue (and the punning episode titles), pop culture references abound and one would imagine that scripts for the episodes are twice as thick as those for other shows, so much is packed in to each 45 minute drama fest. If you are a fan of the show then this is manna from heaven but there is certainly enough here to keep the casual viewer entertained.
