ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Kuno Becker, Stephen Dillane, Anna Friel

SO WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT THEN?

With the 2006 world cup just around the corner Goal just has to be the perfect movie to get you psyched up for the month long festival. It's a classic rags to riches tale of a young man with dreams who has the skill to make them come true.

Newcomer Kuno Becker plays Santiago, a young Los Angeles lad dreaming of making it on the world football stage, he knows he has the talent but it takes former player Glen Froy (Stephen Dillane) to spot his potential and arrange a trial with English premier side Newcastle.

Santiago has to quickly adjust to his new surroundings and try and prove that he can stay the distance. The movie was made with the co-operation of FIFA and includes plenty of real life soccer stars including the likes of David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane
and Alan Shearer. As a big soccer fan I loved it of course, at times it even nearly scales the heights of the legendary Escape to Victory, the true test of any movie featuring soccer matches is how real they look and happily the footballing scenes are top notch.

Goal easily passes the feel good test and the story is strong enough to not just appeal to teenage boys.

FINAL VERDICT

He shoots, he scores!

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

There are plenty of extras including an audio commentary from director Danny Cannon, a couple of featurettes going behind the scenes of the movie, there are also golden moments from previous world cups and a look ahead to the upcoming finals.
