ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Gerald Harper, Bill Fraser, Wanda Ventham, Penelope Keith

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

You could definitely say that Hadleigh was the series made for Gerald Harper, the tales of the suave smooth country gentleman would surely have required little acting from the former Adam Adamant Lives star, lets face it he has always seemed to be the epitome of the suave country gentleman.

Hadleigh grew out of an earlier show called Gazette (broadcast in 1968) which saw the character of Hadleigh working on his fathers weekly newspaper; The following year the Hadleigh series proper emerged, Hadleigh is now lord of the manor and as the sole owner of the newspaper, following his fathers death, he is in the process of negotiating a takeover by a bewigged Bill Fraser.

Fraser would like to see Hadleigh stay in a prime position but Hadleigh has other ideas. This first season features 13 classy episodes (the first ten in black and white, final 3 in colour) spread across four discs and its am entertaining series too, strong dialogue, some high profile guest stars in the shape of the already mentioned Fraser, Wanda Ventham and a young Penelope Keith.

Much of the show centres around Hadleigh's grand home in the country Melford Park in the West Riding of Yorkshire with occasional forays to his Knightsbridge flat and whilst Hadleigh is seen as something of the ultimate bachelor he actually proposes to his PA within the first two episodes (she turns him down however).

If you remember Hadleigh from first time out then you will be more than happy to re-acquaint yourself and for the many TV aficionados who have long wanted the chance to get to know the show this is going to be absolutely essential.
