WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Hamish Macbeth was a three season crime drama series starring Robert Carlyle as a laid back Scottish Highlands village bobby. Hamish is well liked in the village of Lochdubh and is not averse to smoking a bit of pot with the local doctor. Hamish is also very  concerned not to solve any major crimes in case his superiors should promote him to the big city.

Cinema Club and 2|Entertain continue their releases of this superlative series with the 2 disc release of series 2, there's a darker heart to this series with tragedy in store for Hamish's love triangle involving reporter Isobel and laird's daughter Alex, episode 4 Radio Lochdubh is the key episode of the series when the three become two, if you haven't seen the series before we won't go into too much details suffice to say that Hamish is left devastated and in episode five seeks refuge and solitude on a remote island that he believes is uninhabited. It's strong stuff but as always with Hamish Macbeth humour is never far away from the surface, the pretty big supporting cast all having plenty to do, young Lachie Jr seems to have been given a larger role for this second series (the actor playing his dad has also changed, Jimmy Yuill played Lachie Snr in series one this time out Billy Riddoch takes the role)

Hamish Macbeth is very very good and the series would have perhaps continued longer had not Robert Carlyle been becoming a major movie player and not willing to commit to a longer running role but we at least still have one more series to come and look forward to thanks to Cinema Club.
