WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
With brilliant timing MRA Entertainment bring us this very handy primer for the 2006 world cup.
Narrated by Gareth (Nescafe) Hunt the documentary begins with a quick run through of the earliest world cups beginning with the first in 1930 which took place in
Uraguay.

The coverage of the first few world cups is skimpy but there just isn't the footage available, by the time we reach the early 60's the world cup is the biggest sporting event in the world and television has transformed the game with the final now being routinely seen by millions around the world (this time out the total audience is expected to reach the billions).
The doco features all of the classic moments, Pele's breakthrough onto the world stage, England's triumph in 66 on home soil, plentiful coverage of Mexico 70 (arguably the best ever world cup), Maradonna's hand of God, Roger Mila's dancing at the corner flag for Cameroon and of course an absolute barrage of brilliant football and breath-taking goals.
The only downside would have to be the length, it definitely leaves you wanting more and the fact that it only covers upto 1998.

The production was actually made to coincide with the 2002 World Cup and the results of the Japan/Korea tournament are included as one of the extras here. For any soccer fan though this is pure manna from heaven. The cover's great too!
