ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Luca Zingaretti, Katharina Böhm

THE LOW DOWN

Inspector Montalbano is a Sicilian detective originated by writer, Andrea Camilleri. He’s a brooding, well- dressed, extremely sharp detective.

THE VERDICT

Luca Zingaretti plays Inspector Montalbano with great style and the series as a whole has that classic feel of shows such as Inspector Morse or Midsomer Murders - high quality stories against highly scenic backgrounds, in this case beautiful Sicily.

One major plus is the chance to see the real Sicily as opposed to the Hollywood Mafia version that is the usual fare. Although in the Maverick mould Montalbano does actually a life outside the force although his girlfriend Livia (Katharina Bohm) is also drawn into his cases. A top notch tec series deserving of a wider audience.

THE STORIES IN THIS FIRST SET ARE
THE SHAPE OF WATER
Mr Luparello, an engineer and a leading figure in a political party, is found dead in his car in a rough area of town. The coroner rules that he dies of a heart attack following sexual relations. The witnesses and evidence all indicate that the mysterious woman who made love with the politician before his death was Ingrid Sijostrom (Katharina Bohm), the daughter-in-law of a Parliamentarian and Luparello's direct opponent inside his party. Ingrid denies the claims and Inspector Montalbano (Luca Zingaretti) also has doubts and his investigation leads him into a sordid plot of sex and political intrigue.

THE TERRACOTTA DOG
When a criminal turns state witness and informs Montalbano of an arms cache in a cave, the Inspector finds a secret chamber where two young people are buried in what appears to be a bizarre ritual.

THE SNACK THIEF
Montalbano becomes personally involved in a whodunit when a five-year-old, whose mother has been murdered, becomes emotionally attached to the inspector's girlfriend Livia.

VOICE OF THE VIOLIN
The irritable Sicilian detective's first challenge is to figure out a way to start an investigation into the murder of a woman whose naked body he discovered through an unauthorized break-in, without letting it be known that he was the one who found her. The long list of suspects includes the woman's husband, who's seemingly unaffected by the news of her death; the neighborhood half-wit, who would charitably be described as an admirer but more appropriately as a stalker; and the woman's out-of-town lover, who has a cryptic background of his own.
