WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
When a show is as popular as Dallas was then a spin off, if not a shoe-in, was definitely a safe bet, pretty sure that no one would have predicted that that spin off would have outlasted its parent and more than match it in the drama stakes.

Knots Landing took estranged couple Gary and Valene Ewing from Southfork and
ensconced them in a suburban cul-de-sac called Seaview Circle in Knots Landing, a suburb of California. Three other couples, Sid and Karen Fairgate, their all-American
neighbours; Richard and Laura Avery, a struggling couple; and Kenny and Ginger Ward, a newlywed couple, lived in the cul-de-sac and much of this five disc first season set from Warners is obviously spent getting to know the characters, although the series would change enormously in later years to
focus on big business and corporate intrigue it was initially much lower key (and all the better for it) and almost wholly concerned with marriage and relationships.

Gary Ewing himself was something of a black sheep of the Ewing family, an alcoholic and had married Valene whilst still in his teens, the pair had a child (Lucy on Dallas) but split up soon after with the family taking
responsibility for Lucy, it was only after Valene became reconciled with Lucy that she and Gary got back together, heading to California for a fresh start.
Key plot points in this first season include Valene setting out to get a diploma in further education and Gary taking a job with neighbour Sid in his car shop Knots Landing Motors, his success and subsequent promotion sets in motion the season finale involving Gary falling off the wagon; Meanwhile the newlywed couple Ginger and her record producer husband Kenny hit big problems when Ginger discovers Kenny has been cheating on her and Laura Avery achieves something of a breakthrough in her relationship with husband Richard when he agrees to let her go out to work.
Solidly dramatic and always watchable Knots Landing is definitely worthy of a DVD Release and well worth spending some time with.
