ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Queen Latifah, Kim Coles, Kim Fields Freeman, Erika Alexander

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Khadijah James (played by Queen Latifah) is the editor of Flavour, a magazine aimed at black women, somewhat upwardly mobile she shares a Brooklyn brownstone with three friends, one of whom is her secretary at Flavour, Synclaire James, Regine is a childhood friend always on the look out for a new boyfriend and Maxine is an attorney and former college room mate of Khadijah's.

Similar in surface style to Designing Women albeit the shows aimed at different audiences and Living Single is important simply for the fact that for the first time really on American TV that a group of  black women were seen as living as normally as everyone else. Really though the show is probably most similar to Friends and includes just as many laughs per episode as that show, one interesting bit of trivia worth noting is that during season one the set used was the same set used on the sitcom, Family Matters.

Any Special Features?

The only extra featured on the set is a 13-minute documentary called "How Ya Livin'? Season one of Living Single," which features new interviews with series creator Yvette Lee Bowser and some of the cast members (but not Queen Latifah).
