WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Based on the books by legendary illustrator Jan Pienkowski and writer Helen Nicoll the bright and colourful children's animation Meg and Mog comes to DVD. Using bright and big blocks of colour Meg and Mog follows the adventures of witch Meg and her cat Mog;

Meg also has a pet owl and despite not being the best witch ever (in fact most of her spells generally end up causing her problems) she always finds time for fun and adventure. Cress, Bess, Jess and Tess are her four witch friends who also manage to pop up in each episode to add to the fun.

By working closely Pienkowski the producers have been able to stay pretty true to his ideas and the simplistic style he favours really works here - bright purple backgrounds and big blocks of green with the plain Meg and her cohorts in simple black and white. Clever and always go to appeal to its young target audience.

The series, which was put together in the UK and Hungary, has the sort of classic feel that shows of yester year used to specialise in but is something of a rarity in these merchandise first, content second, times.

Released by Shock these two volumes also pack in every episode of the series so far with 26 episodes on each DVD and a running time of over two hours, which is definitely a plus, how often do you get a DVD for the kids only to find it has a running time of about 30 minutes. The show has screened of late on the ABC but definitely worth catching up with on DVD.
