Nick Lachey, Jessica Simpson

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

"is Tuna the Chicken of the sea?"
There is now inevitably a certain extra frisson in watching The Newlyweds given the fact that their marriage is now in freefall and they are a couple no more which is a shame really as this 3 disc box set of seasons two and three of MTV's fly on the wall celeb reality series shows some real growth in the relationship between married singers Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey.

The couple seem more comfortable within themselves in relation to each other but are finding it difficult to deal with the outside forces that keep them in the spotlight, from the ever present paparazzi to the sometimes over eager manager (who just happens to be Jessica's father). You do get the feeling whilst watching the episodes that Jessica must be a really good actress, surely no one could be that disingenuous but then again...

The key theme of these episodes seems to be the struggle of the two of them actually finding the time to be together, what with concerts, endless photo shoots and the whole business of being a "star couple", some of the best moments come from when the pair do find the time to just be themselves and be together, such as a trip to the Kentucky Derby and spending Christmas with their families. You do wonder how much of that pressure forced their split, quite a bit one would imagine.

The celebrity reality series has been overdone somewhat of late but The Newlyweds was one of the first and certainly one of the most interesting, not as seedy as The Osbornes and not as insane as The Anna Nicole Smith Show, one is left with the impression that both Jessica and Nick are relatively normal and were they not famous would be content to live out the suburban dream. Of course we know thats not to be but the set is definitely worth a look.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

This 3 disc set has ample extras including deleted scenes, a special timeline of the duo, the special edition Happy Birthday Jessica, From Nick as well as segments devoted to Nick Moments and Jessica Moments.
