WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

The blackest of black comedies, Nighty Night, written by and starring the superb Julia Davis, is one of the best modern comedies on the box.

Season two is now on DVD courtesy of Roadshow and if you haven't caught up with the show yet you are in for a real treat. Davis plays hairdresser Jill who in the first season became obsessed with new neighbour Don Cole (Angus Deayton), despite the fact that he was married and Jill's own husband was languishing in hospital with cancer (Jill quickly told everyone that he had in fact died!), with Don playing hard to get Jill tried a blind date with the very strange Glen Bulb (brilliantly played by the League of Gentlemen's Mark Gatiss, who is quickly becoming the character actor of choice when an eccentric character is called for), the first season had an ending you wouldn't believe with murder and shocks galore.

Season two picks up with Glen (who is madly in love with Jill) taking the rap for Jill's crimes; This leaves Jill free to continue pursuing Don who has fled to Cornwall to a therapy centre with his wife in a bid to save their marriage.

Jill takes her gormless assistant Linda with her and the pair pose as therapists and inveigle their way into "The Trees", Don though has other things beside Jill on his mind, his wife Cath is pregnant and he has also got himself a teenage girlfriend...

Along with the likes of Little Britain and The League of Gentlemen, Nighty Night is one of a new breed of Britcom shows that is unafraid to push the boundaries of taste and like season one, the second batch of episodes is heavy on dark humour and contains more than a few hands over the eyes, is she really doing that moments, it is also frequently laugh out loud hilarious. Don't miss it.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?
