ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Cyndi Williams

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Julia Barker is a married woman in her late-30s living in Houston, Texas with her husband and two young children. She works in an underpaid job at a bingo complex and has become very downtrodden by life in general. To make matters worse she has lately started to have blackouts which are proceeded by visions of a large empty warehouse like room in New York.

She thinks she can cope but as the episodes get worse and hit her unpredictably she is driven by desperation to travel to New York to try and find this room and hope to discover what the visions mean. But finding the right room in a large city proves a hopeless task and she begins to believe she will never resolve her issues - until she starts to be given clues ...

Is It Any Good? It is a very soberly told tale without any hi-octane special effects normally associated with a paranormal/psychological thriller which this might sound like it is. Cyndi Williams well conveys the hopeless desperation of her character.

The film maintains an intrigue that makes you really want to know what it's all about and what the secret of this room is - although ultimately it has a conclusion that can probably be classed as unsatisfactory for anyone who likes things neatly tied up and explained. It is also quite a short film at only 1 hour and 11 minutes so it won't keep you busy for too long either.

The film won the 2006 Independent Spirit Award and was Sundance 2005 Official Selection and the Cannes 2005 Director's Fortnight Official Selection.
