ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Scott Wilson, Jason Dolley

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

The third and final story in the Shiloh series is very much a movie to tug at the heartstrings. Shiloh is a beagle owned by young Marty Preston (Jason Dolley taking over the role), in the past he has suffered at the hands of grumpy old neighbour Judd Travers (Scott Wilson) but at the heart of the movie is the attempt by Marty and Shiloh to kind of rehabilitate the old man.

Nobody in town actually likes Judd, not that he cares much but the situation gets worse when he has a drink driving accident and then a body in the woods turns up. Is Judd more than just a cantankerous old drunk, is he a murderer too. Despite the fact that Shiloh is still highly wary of Judd Marty is determined to not only get to the heart of the mystery but also try and find out what makes Judd tick.

Saving Shiloh, based on the book of the same name by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, is a strong family drama and is bound to appeal to fans of the first two movies, one strong aspect missing from this though is the presence of Rod Steiger (who died in 2002), Steiger played the kindly Doc Wallace who acted as a great plot signifier in the first two movies.

There's a real sense of redemption and following the story through to its natural conclusion in Saving Shiloh and whilst the movie is named for the dog it really belongs to Judd. There are so few family movies actually made today that when one does slip past the goalpost we need to treasure it. Please do take the time to seek out Saving Shiloh, it's well worth a look.
