ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Mark McManus, James McPherson, Blythe Duff,

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

This 3 disc set from Shock brings us five classic feature length episodes of Taggart, kicking off in 1990 with one of the key episodes of the series, Rogues Gallery, which introduces to us new detective constable Jackie Reid (played by Blythe Duff), who would of course go on to become one of the series main stays.

The thrust of the series remains the same, tough, don't give me no crap or I'll job yer Scottish Detective Inspector Jim Taggart investigates 'mudder' on the mean streets of Glasgow. Created in 1983 by Glenn Chandler Taggart quickly became one of the most popular and hard hitting detective shows on the box - the really good thing about these releases from Shock is that the series is being released in order - so the five episodes on the three discs in this set run from 31 December 1990 with the feature length Rogues Gallery, the three part Nest of Vipers which is one of the best stories in the whole series with a killer who uses a snake to murder his victims; Double Exposure is a three part story from 1992 whilst Violent Delights is another feature length special and The Hit Man is a three parter again both of these are from 1992.

The stories may sometimes veer to the gruesome side but they are incredibly watchable, Mark McManus is superb as Taggart (witness him supposedly taking a few days off to tidy up the garden but spending more time sitting in his deckchair with a 'tinny' or four beside him) but the supporting cast are just as strong. A quality series that is always eminently watchable.

Any Special Features?

None, just the brilliant stories.
