ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Gabriel Kaplan, Marcia Strassman, John Travolta,

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

I said, ba-ba-ba-ba-Barino…

Watching Welcome Home Kotter again now after a gap of 30 years the first things that struck me were how much Gabriel Kaplan looks like David Crosby and how little John Travolta has aged. Star Kaplan co-created this excellent seventies sitcom which, like

an American version of UK hit Please Sir, saw teacher Gabe Kotter returning to the school he graduated from ten years previously, James Buchanan High, to take up a position teaching the "sweathogs" - those streetwise students considered to be on the outer and who couldn't cut it in normal classes.  John Travolta, playing class tough Barbarino, became a name thanks to his role here but for me the star of the show is the legendary Arnold Horshak, you can't quite work out whether you want to strangle him because he is so annoying or laugh yourself silly at his antics.

This TV Favourites disc contains six classic episodes from across the run of the series. These are One Flu Over the Cuckoo’s Nest – Season 1 (aired April 5, 1976 ); Father Vinnie – Season 1 (aired April 26, 1976 ); Sweatside Story – Season 2 (aired October 7, 1976 ); I’m Having Their Baby – Season 2 (aired February 24, 1977 ); The De-Programming of Arnold Horshack – Season 3 (aired October 20, 1977 ); Goodbye, Mr. Kripps – Season 3 (aired March 9, 1978 ).

The new TV Favourites range from Warners is a great idea, very reasonably priced they give you the opportunity to sample series that you might not otherwise be tempted to buy at full box set price.
