A BIT OF FRY AND LAURIE SEASON TWO

Distributor: Roadshow
Region 4 | PAL FORMAT | 180 minutes
Available to buy
Extras: Yes

cast
Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson, Tony Slattery

It's clear now that Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are our generations Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, their career path has followed almost exactly the
same trajectory from getting together at Cambridge for the footlights revue, Hugh the musical one and Fry the satirical wit, Laurie has even followed Moore down the Hollywood route, he's currently one of the hottest properties on American television with House whilst Fry's biting satire makes him one of the brightest sparks on British TV.

In between all this and also like Cook and Moore, the pair had their own BBC sketch series, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, the second season of which has just been released by 2|Entertain, it follows your classic sketch show structure, a mixture of studio skits and film inserts and the occasional musical interlude but the pair lift proceedings with their often surreal musings. Fry is brilliant at portraying middle-aged or elderly bumptiousness (even as a young man here he seems much older) and Laurie is like an excited little bunny rabbit.
Best of all the laugh factor is very high, the material is of a consistently high standard and will have you frequently laughing out loud. The duo followed up this series with acting roles in Blackadder and Jeeves and Wooster but are probably at their best here, sparking off each others flights of fancy.

extras
There's a brilliant 45 minute extra on this set too with the duo's appearance as part of a special BBC show made by the Cambridge Footlights which also features such luminaries as Emma Thompson and Tony Slattery. There is some first rate material here including a brilliantly chilling song by Slattery called I'm going to shoot somebody famous.
