THE GROWING PAINS OF PC PENROSE
Distributor: Second Sight

Certificate: 12 | Region: 2

Extras: No

cast
Paul Greenwood, Bryan Pringle, David Pinner, Alan Foss

Naive young copper PC Michael "Rosie" Penrose leaves home to begin working in the Yorkshire town of Slagcaster where he is soon suffering at the hands of the somewhat mean Sgt Flagg.

With writer Roy Clarke having made such a name for himself with legendary sitcoms Last of the Summer Wine and Open All Hours it is no surprise that some of his other works may not be as well remembered.  The Growing Pains of PC Penrose (or Rosie as it became known from its second season on), with its jaunty theme tune sung by star Paul Greenwood, is easily up there with the best of Clarke's work and has that classic 70's BBC sitcom vibe;

As well as Greenwood as the hapless PC Penrose this first series also features a role for the always brilliant Bryan Pringle as the bullying Sgt Flagg. Later series would head down that Clarke staple of the male characters being dominated by the females of the cast especially when Rosie returns home to look after his invalid Gorgon of a mother.

Definitely worth seeking out and hopefully the rest of this enjoyable series will follow.

No extras unfortunately.
