Murder in Mind

An anthology series of self contained plays with a murderous theme, the twist being that the action was followed from the point of view of the killer. The casts included the likes of Keeley Hawes, David Suchet, Gillian Kearney, Steve McFadden, Timothy West, Ian Kelsey and Kevin Whately.

Jane Saunders, a call centre supervisor, has a secret obsession with her manager. When she becomes convinced he is having an affair with a junior staff member she decides to kill her rival and frame the manager’s wife for the murder. 3. RAGE / Writer: Anthony Horowitz / Director: David Innes Edwards / Producer: Paul Knight / Edward, a single man in his 40s living with his mother, kills a man in a moment of road rage on an isolated country road.  He attends the funeral pretending to be an old friend of the man and befriends the widow, Samantha, who leans on him for support when she discovers that her late husband was leading a double life. 4. SWAN SONG / Writer: Anthony Horowitz / Director: Frank W Smith / Producer: Paul Knight / Tara, a night-club singer, feels stifled by her rich husband, and plans to have him murdered.  She has an affair with Mark White, an ex-con who now works as a security guard in her husbands office.  Mark agrees to kill her husband and the murder is investigated by Detective Superintendent Mike Garrett whom it turns out that Tara is REALLY having an affair with.  Together they plotted to set Mark White up to murder Tara’s husband. 5. FLASHBACK / Writer: Anthony Horowitz, Stephen Leather / Director: Ferdinand Fairfax / Producer: Paul Knight / 
Successful barrister, Nicholas Chadwack, plots to kill Angela, his mistress, when she demands money to keep their affair secret.  He successfully frames one of his clients with the murder (by planting forensic evidence at the murder scene), whom he then "defends" in court.  The story plays out in flashbacks which are presented in reverse chronological order - so we first see the trial, then the method of framing, then the murder, then the development of the motive. 6. MEMORIES / Writer: Stephen Leather / Director: Nick Jones / Producer: Paul Knight / Thriller. Surgeon Stuart Wisher starts to have recurring nightmares involving the murder of a child.  It emerges that the nightmares are in fact his resurfacing memories of a death he was involved in when he was a child which was covered up by his mother who gradually over time had convinced him it had been a bad dream which he eventually forgot about. Emily and Lucy move in as lodgers with reclusive writer Colin in an area where there have been a spate of murders of women.  Lucy is obsessed and keeps a scrapbook on the murders and begins to suspect Colin.  The twist at the end is that the murders have been carried out by Emily. Ken Grendle's machine-parts business is failing and he blames the bank for his woes. He finds them unsympathetic and unhelpful and decides to take a suitably fitting revenge on the bank’s "fat cat" chairman. into her family history to find out the truth of who murdered the man.

4. SUICIDE ( 22 February 2003 )

25 years after her son commits suicide as a result of school bullying Jill Craig decides to take revenge on the bully, Scott Martin. She employs 
the former bully's services for odd-jobs and pretends to befriend him over a period of many months while all the time setting him up for a murder. 
e.g. She shows him her jewellery in order to have his fingerprints on it then plants some of it in his shed, she even secretly changes her will in 
his favour to give him a motive. She then kills herself in such a way as to make it seem as though Scott Martin had murdered her and tried to 
make it look like suicide so he could inherit her money. And with her carefully engineered forensic evidence stacked against him he receives a 
life sentence for her "murder".

 5. CONTRACT (3 April 2003)

Three city dealers' scheme to siphon off money from their company's accounts is suspected by Simon's boss so he and his friends hire ageing 
hitman Terry Cameron to do away with him. Cameron requires payment only on completion of the job, but when the boss publicly dies of a 
heart attack the dealers decide there is no need to pay the hitman. Cameron then starts killing the dealers one-by-one as a penalty for 
non-payment. Starring Adam Faith in his final TV role completed shortly before his death; and TV Presenter Jamie Theakston in an acting role.

6. LANDLORD (11 May 2003)

Mean and unpleasant landlord, Alan Willis, leases a room to a young student and the next day discovers her dead from carbon monoxide poisoning from his faulty boiler so he decides to move her body and make it seem like she committed suicide with the exhaust fumes from her car. But the situation spirals out of control as the bad luck piles up for Alan.
