ABC1: Five Days II Episode Four

The first Five Days was a top notch thriller and whilst this run hasn’t quite reached those standards it still impresses. David Morrissey and Suranne Jones star and the serial reaches it’s penultimate episode this week.

Morrissey plays DI Mal Craig, a cop who is desperate to spend time with his son. He finds comfort in his work and most particularly in the company of colleague DC Laurie Franklin (Suranne Jones), with whom he is soon exchanging pillow talk.

The real achievement of Five Days lies in the way it successfully interweaves multiple narrative strands. Episode four of five opens with a man collapsing on a beach, another man nursing a baby and then reveals an elderly loner.

Each is a fascinating character. Slowly and artfully, viewers come to realise how the lives of the characters interconnect.
