The Big Family Cooking Showdown Episode 9 (BBC-2 12 Oct 2017)
It’s the first of the Cooking Showdown semi-finals and the pressure is set to rise, as the competition is taken to the next level. After meeting 16 families over eight heats, judges Rosemary and Giorgio introduce a series of brand new challenges to determine which teams will earn a place in the final.
Unlike previous challenges, the competing families who have made it this far don’t know what’s in store. This time, three families, instead of two, will be welcomed back: the Charles family, the Karims and the Herberts.
In the first of the new rounds, What’s In The Fridge? will test their creativity as home cooks. The judges have provided a limited range of ingredients and the family teams have one hour to plan and cook a main course for four people.
In the next challenge, Perfect Puddings, each judge has carefully selected a firm family favourite they would like teams to make in 80 minutes. From Rosemary it’s sticky toffee pudding, and from Giorgio it’s profiteroles.
The third semi-final challenge, Nation’s Favourite With A Twist, will ask families for their unique take on a British classic, the roast dinner. In two hours Rosemary and Giorgio want to see how the teams tackle some classic techniques but also if they can make the ordinary, extraordinary.
The Big Family Cooking Showdown Episode 9 (of 12) airs Thursday 12 October 2017 from 8.00pm-9.00pm on BBC Two.
