Black Sails V (Starz 22 Feb 2014, with Clara Paget)
In Black Sails V, with Bryson having left port without handing over his ship’s weaponry Flint must quickly run him to ground.
Meanwhile Richard Guthrie jeopardises the whole operation when he reveals to the town that the English government have declared him a fugitve and are liquidating his assets. If Eleanor cannot pay her creditors she (and Flint) are finished. Eleanor puts together a meeting with all the pirate captains and gives them her new proposal – a consortium with them all taking an equal share. With Hornigold’s endorsement she can pull it off – but he won’t give it unless she lifts the ban on Vane and his remaining men.
As Flint manages to catch up with Bryson it’s battle at sea action well to the fore in a superb set piece between Flint’s ship The Walrus and Bryson’s ship the Andromache. Outnumnbered and outgunned Flint has to take a big risk in attacking the Andromache head on. Much of the action is seen from the point of view of the Flint’s accountant Dufresne who is forced to go into battle for the first time because the crew are outnumbered.
Flint takes the Andromache but Bryson out-manoeuvres him. He heads to the secure hold with most of his men, a cache of explosives and the many slaves (who also now include Mr Scott) that are also aboard bound for Boston. He also lets Flint know that a Navy ship, The Scarborough, is headed directly for them.
