In The Ring Hadleigh are off to an auction at the family home of an old friend. He is keen to win the bidding on a favourite old chair but it’s sold at a knock down price before they get there. James very quickly realises that an antique dealers ring is at work deliberately keeping the prices low to divide up the spoils later.
Hadleigh is determined to bring the ring down and is prepared to go to some length to do so. He buys into an antique shop and begins buying up big in a bid to get himself invited into the ring to gain enough evidence to get the police involved.
The excellent Sidney Tafler steals the episode as Zinneman, the leader of the ring, but familiar faces also include Jonathan Lynn and Tim Barrett. Barrett plays Henry Adams, the owner of the antiques shop Hadleigh buys into. He has always avoided getting involved with the ring but ends up giving the game away to them and for once things don’t go Hadleigh’s way.
