Rock Follies: The Pounds Sterling (ITV 23 Mar 1976 with Michael J. Shannon)

UK | ITV Network – Thames

RUNNING TIME: 60 minutes | AIRDATE: 23 March 1976

WRITER: Howard Schumann | DIRECTOR: Jon Scoffield

Series: Rock Follies / Season 1 Episode 5

In The Pounds Sterling the Little Ladies are given the opportunity to sign with entrepreneur Stavros Kuklas but all three are worried they will be selling out if they sign with him, especially as he doesn’t like their look and isn’t overly keen on their sound. Even though it goes against the grain the girls do sign and find within days the whole band is being compromised. Derek is also none too pleased at being ousted as the producer especially when surfer Karl takes his place.

Quite a few surprises in store in this episode as the girls are willing to compromise their ideals for success, although to be fair Q has always been one for the champagne lifestyle anyway. Reporter Nigel and groupie David also turn up again both of whom are none too impressed at the changes the girls are being forced to make.

The dream sequence this time features the whole band, once again a white backdrop is involved but there are key rock icon images (Elvis in Jailhouse Rock etc) pasted on the floor. The song is a slowed down version of the Rock Follies theme tune.
