UK / BBC / 1×60 minute episode / Never Broadcast
Writer: Steven Moffat / Titles: Peter Anderson Studio / Director: Coky Giedroyc
This was a full on complete episode of the series Sherlock made when the BBC were considering airing the series as 8×1 hour episodes. Plotwise it is exactly the same as the opening episode proper but with a different ending of sorts (it basically takes place in Sherlock’s flat rather than the school/college but the outcome is the same) and some differences in casting. Although as yet unbroadcast it was included on the DVD and Blu-Ray release of the first series.
It’s probably unfair to compare the two episodes as the extra half hour enables the whole thing to be widened out and although it clearly isn’t anywhere near as glossy as the longer version it is still a polished piece of drama. Of course it is also great fun playing spot the difference between the two episodes, some scenes are exactly the same some are the same but with different design or shot from a different angle. Mycroft is also completely absent from this version.
