Walking the Nile and Walking the Himalayas explorer Levison Wood continues his new expedition: to walk from Mexico to Colombia along the length of Central America.
In the second episode Levison and Alberto walk 400 miles across Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. They party in Livingston, a unique Caribbean town that’s home to the descendants of shipwrecked African slaves, before trekking through stunning but treacherous mountain landscapes. And, before they can reach the halfway point of the journey, Levison and Alberto must negotiate safe passage through gang territories in one of the most violent cities on Earth: San Pedro Sula, which is in the grip of a crime wave dating back to the 1990s, when the US began deporting convicted Honduran criminals back there.
The criminals took their brutal gang culture with them, and those gangs now battle over the multi-billion-dollar drug trade. In five years there have been nearly 6000 murders in the city.
