Within These Walls: Failing To Report (ITV 22 Feb 1974, with Paul Darrow)

In Failing to Report Charles Radley finds himself in trouble after he is involved in a minor car accident, there is little damage to either car but the man driving the other vehicle decides to take the matter further. Radley has to appear in court and receives a fine for failing to report an accident. Matters are made worse when he fails to report the incident to Faye too. He has already been put in his place after speaking rather too freely about reform at a prison conference.

Radley, thinking he has lost the respect of the inmates, decides to resign but Faye talks him round, making him see that the inmates need to see them as human and making mistakes is all part of that. There are quite a few scenes of Radley at home with his wife and they really are not getting along at all. Beth Radley seems very much against Charles’ work and has had basically had enough.

Meanwhile inmate Clare Staines is causing a major stir at Stone Park. A long term inmate she is behaving quite out of character and causing trouble all around. Eventually it’s discovered that her young neice is very ill in hospital and Clare is desperate to see her.

A strong episode for Jerome Willis as Radley. Former Play School presenter Floella Benjamin pops up as one of the inmates and Paul Darrow plays the doctor boyfriend of Janet Harker.
