FIONA'S STORY
UK / BBC One - BBC Scotland / 1x90 minute episode / Broadcast 2008
Writer: Kate Gabriel / Researcher: Clare Dwyer Hogg / Costumes: Rhona Russell / Production Design: Pat Campbell / Music: Ben Barlett / Executive Producers: Matthew Read, Anne Mensah / Producer: David Boulter / Director: Adrian Shergold
Highly emotional drama Fiona's Story is a difficult drama about a woman, Fiona Mortimer and her family, whose lives are changed for ever when her husband Simon is accused of downloading disturbing images from the internet, as Simon is released on bail and comes home, for Fiona everything has changed, not least her trust of her husband and also the fact that even her own children may not be safe around him.
With this type of scenario sadly occuring all too often in these times of access to every imaginable and unimaginable thing possible, writer Kate Gabriel is very much on the money when it comes to exploring this difficult subject and wisely she and director Shergold steer clear of the sensationalist angle and focus instead on the impact it has on the family. Typically strong performances from both the under rated Northam and Gina McKee and the supporting cast was pretty high profile too.
