Period drama serial The Far Pavilions, based on the novel by M.M.Kaye, told the story of a young British army officer in the days of the Raj.

Ben Cross stars as Ash, who, having been fostered by an Indian family after being orphaned, is a British army officer serving in the Corp of Guides. He finds himself caught between his love, not just for both Great Britain and India. He is also caught between the British Empire and India when he falls in love with his childhood friend Anjuli – now a Princess promised to be the bride of stern local ruler.

The casting was top drawer featuring John Gielgud, Rossano Brazzi, Robert Hardy, Omar Sharif and Christopher Lee in supporting roles.

As befitting such a high profile show, The Far Pavilions was given a prestigious TV Times cover for the week of its premiere as well as a five page spread inside.
