In Imaginary Enemies Piper has been reassigned to “The Ghetto” and rooming with Claudette who is not too pleased to have Piper around. Piper is also assigned to the electrical shop, fixing lamps. She runs into serious trouble when she loses a screwdriver and is assaulted by Mendez during the search. Piper does manage to find a way to ingratiate herself with some of the other inmates by agreeing to write appeal letters.

Flashbacks focus on Claudette who arrived in the country unable to speak English but ended up running her own housekeeping company. We discover that she murdered a man who was abusing one of her employees.
