Classic
1970's Australiania with The FJ Holden.
This is a brilliant reminder of an Australia that seems to be quickly vanishing, a full on Nostalgia blast, the tone is set right from the opening scenes in the
"Shaggin' Wagon", it just seems like a real movie and along with Puberty Blues almost the quintessential guide to Australian youth in the 1970's and 80's.
While car fans will go overboard for the classic FJ Holden on display the movie is more concerned the transition from youth to adult and the humdrum of daily life, there is some positively brilliant footage of the guys driving around Bankstown and spending time in the RSL Clubs and Shopping malls.
Australian movies are often criticised for their parochial outlook but its really important to document the changing times, witness this exchange between mother and son "don't drink too much if you're driving", back in the 70's you weren't a proper aussie if you didn't drink and drive.
There's also a very funky soundtrack with The Skyhooks well to the fore as well the classic
Ol' 55.
