Lassie is living with the Stratton children, Samantha (Sally Boyden) and Chip (Shane Sinutko) and their grandmother Ada (Jeanette Nolan). One day, while driving to visit their Uncle Stuart (John Reilly), grandmother Ada collapses and dies leaving the children alone in a strange town.

When Lassie is taken by the local pound, she must escape and get Sam and Chip from Uncle Stuart’s and they run away together. On their travels, they stumble across an army base where they are not welcomed. While running away, Chip gets bitten by a rattle snake, and although Sam tries to help, Lassie knows that the only person that can help is Uncle Stuart.
