celebrate the region 2 release by ITV DVD of the excellent Arthur Askey
Collection by ITV DVD we have three of his movies to give away. I
Thank You, Miss London Ltd and Bees in Paradise.
Arthur Askey, the quintessential
British comedy genius, regarded as one of the most inventive comedy
performers ever to come out of Britain, is all set to join the digital
age with the ITV DVD release of THE ARTHUR ASKEY COLLECTION on 19th
February 2007; the release also marks the 70th anniversary of Askey's
first ever film, what better time to indulge in this hilariously funny
and wonderfully nostalgic six disc Boxset. This exclusive DVD debut
includes Miss London Limited, Band Waggon, Backroom Boy, Bees In
Paradise, King Arthur Was A Gentleman and I Thank You (Ay-thang-yew). |

| This
range of comedy classics, which are also available as individual titles
demonstrate how Big-Hearted Arthur, as his peers and his fans fondly
knew him, paved the way for many of the innovative comic performers we
know and love today.
In the brilliant Back Room
Boy, Askey plays a loner who swears off women. He is sent to a
lighthouse in a remote Scottish Island where he is supposed to be the
only inhabitant, however, he soon discovers a young stowaway on his boat
and then with the arrival of a boatload of shipwreck survivors, the
population of the island is brought up to 13 in total and things are
starting to get a little crowded! Nominated for 3 Academy Awards, Band
Waggon is a riotous comedy of errors in which Askey plays one half
of a comedy duo that decide to hijack a television studio and transmit a
pirate broadcast to promote their act. Set on an island in the South
Atlantic, Bees in Paradise is a fantastic musical comedy about a
very unusual island where women hold all the power. Men are shut up or
forced into menial jobs, but when a group of airmen arrive, love is soon
in the air - and things are complicated to say the least. King Arthur
Was A Gentleman is a sweet comic romance about the mishaps that can
ensue with an overactive imagination. Arthur plays a young army recruit
who is posted to King Arthur country, and given an 'Excalibur' as a
practical joke, and genuinely believes himself to be invincible.
The film that spawned a
catchphrase of a decade, I Thank You, charts the perils,
humiliations and humour of trying to run a second-rate theatrical
company when all financial aid is withdrawn. Not to be defeated, the
stars decide the show must go on, no matter the cost! In Miss London
Limited, Arthur the owner of a female escort agency, but due to the
nature of his female employees, he is receiving fewer and fewer
bookings. |
