Following
on the heels of Rolf Harris's Star Portraits and something of a spin on
the old Channel 4 show Watercolour Challenge is Painting Australia
presented by Sorrel Wilby. Tonight the show visits Byron Bay.
MASTER
ARTIST: Jenny Sages Having completed an outback painting workshop in
the Bungle Bungles, Jenny Sages became a full-time artist at the age of
52. Since then there has been no turning back, with a string of art
awards, including the 2005 Wynne Prize and acquisition by the National
Portrait Gallery and the NSW Art Gallery.
EMERGING
ARTISTS:
Hobie
Porter describes himself foremost as an artist, then a teacher. A
Visual Arts Honours graduate and Henry Lawson Scholar, Hobie also
completed a Graduate Diploma of Education in 2002. His work largely
involves miniatures where he seeks out micro-elements, and places them
within a macrocosmic landscape.
Stephen
Phibbs Stephen has been painting professionally for five years.
Stephen works in layering, and until now has used a 'secret' method to
achieve his style. This method evolved through accidents from completing
around 750 paintings. His landscapes encompass a multi-dimensional
approach, and are 'about the metaphysical and physical elements of a
site'.
Linelle
Steptoe Linelle Steptoe is an artist based in the hinterland of the
north coast of New South Wales. Linelle's current work embraces and
reflects her professional studies in art at RMIT in Melbourne and Art
History and Philosophy at Sydney University, exploring notions of the
impact of colonisation on our environment. |
