POIROT - SAD CYPRESS
AGATHA CHRISTIE'S POIROT
Sad Cypress ABC | Friday 12 January 2007 @ 8.30pm

In Sad Cyprus determined detective Hercule Poirot (David Suchet) races against the clock to save the life of a beautiful young woman convicted of a double murder.

Socialite Elinor Carlisle (Elisabeth Dermot Walsh) stands trial for poisoning her aunt Laura Welman (Diana Quick) and the gardener's daughter Mary Gerrard (Kelly Reilly). All evidence points to Elinor's guilt, so why does Poirot feel so uneasy? Life had once been so happy for the young woman - until an anonymous letter about her sick aunt became the catalyst for a tragic chain of events.

Concerned for Laura's welfare, Elinor and her handsome fiancé Roddy Winter (Rupert Penry Jones) set off for the family home, where Elinor asks family friend Dr Lord (Paul McGann) to pass the letter to Poirot to investigate.

Meanwhile Mary Gerrard is looking after Laura and Roddy struggles to fight their mutual attraction. Laura's health deteriorates, and on the night of her death, Elinor catches Roddy kissing Mary and he admits he's falling in love. With her engagement over and her aunt gone, a devastated Elinor starts to pack up the house.

Then Mary is found dead, poisoned with morphine, and it turns out Laura died of a similar overdose. Elinor's motives make her the obvious killer…unless Poirot can prove otherwise.
